In Apple’s recent iOS update to 15.1 and above, Apple released a bug that impacts the use of location services when operating in the background (i.e. not when the app is open on the user’s phone). SignOnSite relies on iOS location services to function correctly for automatic sign on to work as expected.
This is impacting not only SignOnSite users, but also other iOS apps using location services. The issue can be intermittent where sometimes iOS location services will work, and sometimes it will not.
We have reported the issue to Apple, and they have confirmed the bug and have been working on a fix. SignOnSite has had reports from users who have previously experienced this issue that iOS 15.3 released January 26 2022 may resolve the problem - but we are yet to get confirmation from Apple on this.
We are running our own testing program at the moment to confirm that iOS 15.3 has fixed the issue.
What this means for SignOnSite Users
If you have not yet upgraded to iOS 15
- Hold off upgrading until we have confirmation that the latest iOS 15.3 release has fixed this issue
If you are running any version of iOS 15.0, iOS 15.1 or iOS 15.2
- Update to the latest iOS 15.3 update
If you are running iOS 15.3 and experience problems with automatic sign on
- Contact SignOnSite support and let us know so we can inform Apple that the bug is still unresolved
- Temporarily switch to using manual sign on (how to switch) until Apple fully resolves the bug
Apologies for the inconvenience.
